Camille de Montillet de Grenaud

Le domaine des Quatre Vents appartient à la famille de Montillet depuis plus d’un siècle. Depuis 2016, Camille de Montillet de Grenaud est à la tête de la propriété. «Je suis la troisième génération sur l’exploitation, c’est mon grand-père Hubert qui l’a fondé en 1936, et c’est mon père Alain qui l’a développé pendant près de quarante ans. Je l’ai rejoint il y a dix ans, et maintenant, je marche dans leurs traces. Dans un domaine de famille, il faut respecter l’acquis tout en se projetant dans l’avenir.» Pourquoi ce nom, Les Quatre Vents? «Ce sont effectivement les quatre vents qui soufflent par chez nous, à Cassis; ce sont la lombarde, le mistral, le sirocco et le ponant; parfois, ils nous rendent fous, ils nous “escagassent”, comme on dit par ici. Mais on les aime bien quand même, parce qu’en définitive, ils assainissent l’air, et nos vignes avec.»

Domaine des Quatre Vents has been owned by the de Montillet family for more than a century and Camille de Montillet de Grenaud has run the estate since 2016. “I’m the third generation here. My grandfather Hubert founded the estate in 1936, and my father Alain worked for nearly 40 years to develop it. I joined him in that task ten years ago, and now I’m following in their footsteps. In a family estate, you have to respect the existing body of knowledge, at the same time as focusing on the future”. So what is the origin of the name Les Quatre Vents (The Four Winds)? “Basically, it’s the fact that we get winds from all four points of the compass here in Cassis: the Lombarde, Mistral, Sirocco and Ponant; sometimes they drive us crazy – ‘ils nous escagassent’ – as people say here. Even so, we still welcome them, because in the end, they clean the air, and therefore our vines as well”.
