lavished on around 220 hectares of vines, in the certain knowledge that they are essentially caretakers working to pass on a heritage to future generations. The long-term future of these vineyards depends totally on the quality of the wine they produce, and in a wider sense, so does the entire area. That is important because, throughout the 20th century, this heritage has been constantly protected against the tide of property and industrial development; and that commitment is clear evidence of the attachment that the people of Cassis have to their area, and to their spirit of resistance. Since 2012, the vineyards of Cassis have been part of the Parc National des Calanques, making this the only AOC in France to be entirely included within a national park. The majority of wine-growers here have chosen the organic route, and see their national park status as a protection rather than a restriction: after all, are they not at the cutting edge of defending the natural world every day by virtue of their work? By whatever means of transport you choose, Cassis is worth the effort.. To get here, you have to cross the cliff, pass through woods, over rocks or through lines of cypresses. In the same way, its wines are to be appreciated as a form of gradual revelation. Today, the enclave of Cassis is open to the world. And it waits for you!
