Built in 1670, the castle chapel is dedicated to Saint Eloi. The chapel is set in a round tower, accessible by a gallery in the castle’s East Wing. Of particular note, the dome’s trompe l’oeil patterned ceiling.

Seventeenth Century Classicism Like the great majority of the Dordogne’s castles, Hautefort A  , can claim medieval origins. Totally transformed in theXVIIth century, the castle’s defensive systemsmade way to large French formal gardens (above) as the fortress was turned into a stately residence. Visitors can immerse themselves in the resplendent regal atmosphere as they discover the furnished apartments, reception rooms, the chapel, and the Tower of Brittany with its underground passageways (below) . EveryWednesday night during the summer, entertaining dramatised tours reveal the major and minor, secrets of history. And from April 1st, the castle hosts an exhibition called: “50 Years of Cinema at Hautefort”.
